How Much Does Welding School Cost in Florida?
For a Florida resident, a full-time year of welding tuition and fees at a public college ran from $2,496 at Eastern Florida State College to $3,930 at Ridge Technical College in 2024–25. Technical colleges that quote a whole-program price mostly land between $3,024 at Lake Technical College and $8,828.07 at Osceola Technical College, depending on whether lab fees, books, boots and test fees are folded in.
If you live in Florida, welding school is one of the cheapest trade programs you can take. At the state’s public colleges, a full-time year of tuition and fees for residents ran from $2,496 at Eastern Florida State College to $3,930 at Ridge Technical College in 2024–25. That is before books, gear and lab fees, which can add as much again at some schools.
Almost every public program in Florida is built around the same 1,050-hour Welding Technology certificate. Because the core hours match, price and schedule are the real differences between schools. The spread between the cheapest and the most expensive resident rate is small. If two of these schools are within driving distance, schedule and pipe welding coverage should decide it before price does.
What a Whole Program Costs at Technical Colleges
Florida’s county technical colleges usually skip the yearly figure and post one total for the full 1,050 hours. These are the resident prices each school lists on its welding page:
- Lake Technical College, Eustis: about $3,024 in tuition, with books and fees on top.
- Lively Technical College, Tallahassee: $3,066 in resident tuition, plus $2,000 in lab fees and other charges.
- Florida State College at Jacksonville: about $3,066.00 in total in-state tuition.
- Pasco-Hernando State College: about $3,083 in in-state tuition, before lab fees and books.
- Miami Lakes Educational Center: about $3,543.00 total.
- Palm Beach State College: $4,000, which already covers books, a uniform shirt and safety gear.
- Florida Gateway College: $4,188.34 for tuition plus lab fees.
- Ridge Technical College: $6,092; Traviss Technical College in Lakeland: $6,232.
- Atlantic Technical College, Coconut Creek: $6,225.
- Erwin Technical College, Tampa: an estimated $6,400.
- Treasure Coast Technical College, Vero Beach: $6,886.00.

Two schools price by the hour instead. Robert Morgan Educational Center in Miami charges $2.56 per hour in-state, and Wilton Simpson Technical College in Brooksville charges $2.44 per program hour, with fees extra at both.
Why Two Quotes for the Same Program Don’t Match
Lake Technical College quotes about $3,024 and First Coast Technical College $8,803.39, yet both describe nearly the same 1,050 hours of training. The difference is what the school folds into the number.
Atlantic Technical College shows how it adds up: tuition of $2,940, a lab fee of $3,150, and then test, registration and activity fees, for $6,225 in all. McFatter lists the same tuition of $2,940, plus $3,285 in fees and $833 in books and supplies. Manatee Technical College’s estimate goes further and includes the application, uniform, textbook and boots.
The low quotes usually leave things out. Eastern Florida State College’s $2,690 program figure is tuition only and excludes course materials and lab fees. Pasco-Hernando’s figure also excludes lab fees and textbooks.
So when you compare, line up the same items. A school that looks twice as expensive may simply be the one that told you everything up front.
The Cheapest Route in Each Florida Region

If You Are Moving to Florida
Residency changes the math more than any other factor. Out-of-state tuition at the state colleges ran from $9,111 at Hillsborough to $12,032 at Pasco-Hernando for a full-time year in 2024–25.
The technical colleges show the same jump. Ridge charges a non-resident $17,884 against $6,092 for a resident. Marion quotes $16,134.18 for non-residents, McFatter $15,878 and Atlantic Technical $15,045. Hourly programs follow suit: Robert Morgan’s out-of-state rate is $10.25 per hour, and Wilton Simpson’s is $9.32 per program hour.
If you are relocating, the resident rate is worth planning around: at Ridge and Traviss, the non-resident price is close to three times the resident one.
Books, Gear and Test Fees
Books and supplies at the state colleges ranged from $600 at Eastern Florida State College to $2,700 at Palm Beach State College. Palm Beach’s program total of $4,000 already includes books and protective gear, so that high supplies figure is less painful than it looks.

What the Training Pays Back
Florida welders earned a median of $50,640 a year, or $24.35 an hour, in May 2025, according to BLS. Pay in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area was higher, with a median of $54,590.
